Care Instructions
It is important that customers remove jewellery before participating in physical activities, before going to bed and before swimming or bathing. Prolonged contact with heat and body sweat will degrade jewellery more rapidly. Direct exposure to harsh environments and chemicals will compromise the integrity of the jewellery pieces. This includes, perspiration, cleaning agents, perfumes, lotions, salt water, acetone and metal polishing agents (such as silver polish).

Cleaning your Jewellery Pieces
The best way to remove dirt is to soak jewellery in clean lukewarm water for a few minutes and use a soft toothbrush to clean the soiled locations. A silver polishing cloth can be used on sterling silver jewellery to bring back shine. For maintenance, dampen a soft cloth in lukewarm water and gently rub on jewellery. Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

The use of silver polishing liquids, dips, tumblers and ultrasonic cleaning methods should be avoided on all of THE TRAACE jewellery items. Polishing cloths with cleaning compounds are not recommended for any of our items. This applies especially to natural shells, fossils and gemstones that are electroplated (‘dipped’) in 24k gold. It also applies more generally because, typically, any one of our designs are complexly constructed with different layers of soft metals, gemstones and fossils, with each material possessing different sensitivity characteristics.

The physical beauty of time
The most beautiful aspect of owning a piece with aesthetic longevity is that they gradually adopt the coloured patina of time. This occurs with all genuine jewellery pieces, whether they have ‘fine’ or ‘costume’ jewellery designations. One can expect that the bright glow of gold will intensify and become warmer and slightly duller. This adds to the beauty and appeal of vintage pieces. It is perfectly normal for the finishing to wear off over time. The Traace’s warranty does not cover this natural process of wear and tear.

Storing your Jewellery
Please store in a lined, protective jewellery box or a tarnish-resistant pouch.
Jewellery pieces should always be stored away from heat and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom or in plastic bags (polythylene, Mylar, polyvinyl which contain sulphur compounds). Do not store in rubber bags and containers which will degrade and severely tarnish sterling silver.
